LIFE AT WHITE ROSE SAILING ASSOCIATION
The White Rose sailing Association was formed by a small group of enthusiasts in 1957 and subsequently recognised by the Royal Yachting Association. Early in 1958 its present site at Givendale was obtained. From the beginning WRSA has sought to provide the competitive environment through which competent sailing and boat handling standards can be achieved. At the same time those features which make week-end sailing an exciting and enjoyable family sport are purposely maintained.
The river Ure at Givendale is non tidal, clean and, with reasonable precautions, quite safe, even for young children. It provides pleasant river sailing, through attractive open countryside undisturbed by other river traffic. The club site comprising of 2 slipways, dinghy park, club house, changing rooms and toilets, is close to Newby Hall, one of Yorkshire's most impressive stately homes and is easily reached from Ripon or the A1.
White Rose is essentially a family sailing club. Its activities, both sailing and social, are well supported and family membership is encouraged. Members may participate in the club racing at all levels. It should, however, be pointed out that this programme, whilst seriously followed, is undertaken in keeping with the family spirit of the club.
On Sundays during the season (April-October)
organised racing takes place. The programme includes several trophy days and
a Regatta. Complete beginners are welcome and every assistance will be given
to them by the established members to enable them to become competent sailors.
Pleasure sailing is available to competent members at all times. We extend
a warm welcome to experienced sailors, to beginners and families.
