TIREE REGATTA – Will be held on Friday , 27th July 2007 .

If, on that day, the weather is unsuitable, it will probably be postponed until the next Saturday.

Racing is not to IYRU rules but to local historic rules more suited to the traditional dipping-lug boats used. So far as is known, Tiree is the only place in the UK where such boats are still raced. We hope to have 7 local lugs racing . We will be holding races for dinghy and keel boats. We will also hold a RIB and Trawler Race .The local fishermen are known to be very competitive !!!. All visitor boats welcome

Racing starts at 15.00 hrs .

Register with the timekeeper at the harbour in Scarinish by 14.00 hrs if you want to join in.We will run a series of shore events, including kayak, rowing and raft races. There will be a shore-side BBQ and in the evening a licensed dance to one of Tiree's legendary bands .

TRC has, since spring 2005, been working up a project to maintain Tiree's Dipping Lug racing traditions. The Tiree Maritime Trust, has been established, to take the project forward, to renovate a number of luggers, which would then establish a 12-15 boat fleet of Tiree Dipping Luggers. The project requires considerable funding, and if successful Tiree could consider establishing the UK Racing Dipping Lug Championships. Time will tell.
