Comann Seolaidh Lochbaghasdail
(founded 1999)

Lochboisdale
South Uist

Comann Seolaidh Lochbaghasdail was established in 1999 and formed a junior section in 2002.

CSL has three Bosun sailing dinghies and three Topper sailing dinghies. We also have a small safety boat out on meet days.

We try to meet every weekend on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and also on Wednesday evenings. Boats can be made available for members' use outside of these times although a rescue craft must be provided.

Sailing areas:-
Loch Boisdale
Lochboisdale provides many different challenges for dinghy sailors from the confined space of the Bagh Dubh to the tidal currents in Strome, but there is plenty space for more relaxed sailing too.
Loch Hallan
This is an inland freshwater loch which is ideal for beginners because it is not too deep although there are some rocks just below the surface. CSL likes to make use of this loch in the spring when the water level is at its best (and before the anglers arrive).
Sound of Eriskay
The main sailing area for the club has protection from the coast of South Uist to the north and Eriskay to the south with the causeway providing a helpful breakwater to the west. It is also where the SS Politician ran aground with her cargo of whisky, inspiring the 'Whisky Galore' tale.

The club usually meets in the Lochboisdale Hotel. New members are always welcome. For further details contact the club secretary.
