The Club has about 60 members and racing mainly involves keel boats, but the dinghy section is growing in strength. The Club recently acquired 3 Picos and
there is a mixed fleet of GP14s, Toppers, Lasers and a 505. Most evening sailing occurs in Campbeltown Loch, but Saturday races include Round Arran
and Round Sanda events. Cruise-in-company weekends often go to Arran, Rathlin or Gigha.
We are twinned with Cushendall Sailing & Boating Club in Red Bay, Northern Ireland and
for over 20 years have crossed the North Channel to race and socialise, with them reciprocating the following month or so.
We compete with Arran (Lamlash), Tarbert and Ardrishaig Sailing Clubs for the Andrew Leitch Trophy, which consists of a passage race after meeting up the
previous evening at a venue chosen by the winner of the last Race, who has been from Campbeltown for the last two years.
We have no club moorings, but there are good anchorages off the Clubhouse (but not on our Line, please!) and elsewhere in the Loch. Most visiting yachts now use
the 40+ dedicated yacht pontoon operated by the Campbeltown Loch Berthing Company Limited. The Line is from the bottom of our slipway to the end of the new ferry
terminal. The clubhouse can be opened for visitors and the showers, etc. were improved in 2002. |
