Previous name Kerreera

Just to let you know that Mary Vertue V8 will soon be returning to the water! After a few years of TLC the old girl is almost ready. The time spent out of the water has not taken its toll too unkindly to the basic structure, with only a tiny section of the deck needing to be replaced. A true testament to the materials and builders back in 1939! I will keep you posted with photos etc in the near future.

Mary, escaped unscathed from a lethal Biscay storm, winning the RCC Seamanship Medal. Swamped several times in horrific seas which sank a yacht nearby, her skipper James Burette had nothing but praise for her, never for a moment doubting her ability. Not bad for a cruiser that was never designed to venture much further than the Channel Islands and built 60 years ago. I saw her only last year in the Solent, beating purposefully up to Lymington, looking as happy here as she would in the open ocean. Perhaps that's her secret.

(From VOA Newsletter Feb 1994)I think you would all agree that congratulations are in order to James Burdett of Mary (see boat show newsletter) James has won not only the Royal Cruising Club Sealaughter trophy but also the Royal Cruising Club seamanship, the most senior award (distinguished winners include Robin Knox Johnston, Sir Frances Chichester and Alec Rose) for his adventures in Mary. We all congratulate you and well done:
