Sailing at the TEYC

The Club has both dinghy and cruiser classes with an active sailing season running from April to October, although in recent years we have also held a Winter Series in February/March. A full programme of dinghy racing is held from the jetty, races generally being mixed handicap as no one class is dominant. The cruiser section also have a full programme which includes racing and weekend cruising. A summer cruise either up the East Coast, or over to France, Belgium, or Holland is usually included

The balance between dinghy and cruiser sailing is about even, and the two fleets often combine for special trophy races, and various away day sails to local places of interest. In recent years we have had over 40 members heading to Hoo and what agreat weekend we had.

At Thames Estuary Yacht Club we believe that our sailing should be fun as well as competitive, and our programme includes an annual Commodore's day with lots of fun and games in and on the water.

Our dinghy fleet races on a handicap basis using the RYA Portsmouth yardstick ratings. We have a mixed and varied fleet which consists of anything from Toppers through to Catamarans. The Club owns 7 Toppers which are available for the use of Members.

The cruiser section has boats and owners of all types. At present there are around 35 boats ranging in size from 17ft to 31ft. Most are sailing boats but powerboats also figure. The cruising program, which runs from April to October is designed to suit owners of all types of boats. Club moorings are available for bilge and lifting keelers.

Weekend cruises cover the Thames Estuary and rivers Medway and Crouch. The longer Bank Holiday weekend cruises either go up the Thames as far as the central London Marinas, or along the East Coast.

Two rescue boats, with VHF communications, are available, with at least one on duty during all Club sponsored racing and day sailing activities.
