Profanity and its place in the New Corinthian Yacht Club
Even before uploading this web site, I have wondered how to handle the inevitable profanities included in some of the contributors work. One in particular has the ability to intersperse profanities in his conversations and writings at an alarming rate. In almost all his communications, a very strong sense of humour is projected and this site might be the poorer if we applied too much censorship. On the other hand, some people, particularly visitors who did not fully understand our type of humour may be offended and is not meant that this site should offend or shock, but merely to amuse.
I have talked with several friends about the use of Anglo Saxon adjectives and have had a mixed reception. Some are of the opinions that swear words have no place on the site whilst others say that it looses its appeal.
I have listened to both sides of this argument and it has become quite clear that with the advent of Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s, and other giant emporiums the public is well able to exercise choice and to making its own mind up. (If you believe that, you will believe anything. Just try walking round with a list and an empty basket and see what you end up with. Another annoying facet of life that winds me up and perhaps a topic for later) So it seems perfectly logical that there should be two versions of the profane articles: one with swear words and one without, and then you, dear reader can make your own ******* mind up!!!
For those of you who are struggling with your consciences, perhaps a visit to Wikipedia might help!!
