Simessail Sailing School runs a Challenger 35 long keel
Sloop out of Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Named "Blustery Day", she is Simon's own yacht and is kept in
excellent condition.
Blustery Day is RYA/MCA registered to 80 miles offshore and takes
up to 5 students. Equipped with GPS, RADAR, Autopilot, a large
galley and ample comfort. The Fridge, Shower, and her
long-legged gentle motion make her a comfortable teaching
platform.
The Challenger 35 is a variant of the Alex Primrose designed “WARRIOR” 35. Built by Trident Marine in 1980 Blustery Day is a long keeled easily driven yacht with plenty of ballast. With her fully battened main, No1, 3 and Storm jibs and a good sized Spinnaker Blustery Day can go just about anywhere and at any time.
Blustery Day has had a refit this year, with the following items renewed:-
- Rigging has been replaced by Spencers, probably the best riggers in the world.
- New Main sail and No 3 by Salterns of Shepards Wharf, Cowes (01983 280 014)
- New electronics, designed and installed by Viceroy Design of East Cowes Marina (01983 533 748).
- All new Propane Systems including a new Stove by Dave Dobson
