Queenborough Yacht Club Open Day 2008- 17th May Despite the awful weather the Open day was a resounding success, with seven new members joining on the day and two the following day. Our thanks go out to the Isle of Sheppey Sailing Club for the loan of their buoyancy aids and the members that turned up to support us. True spirit and Jacana took several trips out in weather that turned from bad to worse. Both boats met with problems. First true Spirit appeared to developed engine trouble leaving Jacana to take out a family of five, during which time Jacana suffered a ripped Genoa. However all that braved the ravaging weather came back with smiles on their faces, even the very young who didn’t seem to want to get off. Photographers from both the Sheerness Times Guardian and the Sheppey Gazette arrived and took some very nice pictures which we hope will go into the next addition. Radio Kent also publicised the event during the week, finishing with a quick interview with your truly on the Saturday morning It is defiantly the intention of the club to make this an annual event and encourage more people into the sport of sailing. The thanks of the club must also go to: Margret the Commodore Elizabeth Ann David Andy Vic Ena Who welcomed the guests and showed how friendly our club is. Our thanks also go out to: John Pete Stan Bryn Eddie Who skippered the boats, ran the trot boat and manned the all tide landing.
