LAKE BALA MEET - MAY 2010
This year, the Bala meet is on the weekend of 8th and 9th
May. The campsite is on the shore of the peninsula at the east side
of the lake, off the B4403. It’s roughly half way up the lake and well placed
for monitoring activity both north and south.
The Eagle Inn at the south shore is good for meals (01678 540278 to book) and a
drink. The Bala tourist office will give info. about bed and breakfasts in the
area for those who might prefer a bit of comfort. (There are certainly plenty in
Bala village).
The site’s address is: 'Pant - Yr - Onnen', Llangower, Y Bala, Gwynedd, LL23
7BT.
It has good facilities, and
campervans/ caravans etc. are welcome. As last year, we are using the general
site to the right of the entrance, near the catamaran park. Boats can be kept by
the shore. Those wanting electric hook ups should book a pitch in advance,
mentioning OCSG. If available, they are to the right of the entrance. The owner
is Mr. Roberts, tel: 01678 520415. My mobile number is: 0780 1370734.
I intend to be there from Friday evening.
There is a cafe at the north end of the lake. In the past, some have found the
long sail back from there difficult. The Bala water temperature will still be
low, so members should dress accordingly and ensure adequate buoyancy and
bailing gear. We discourage heading off alone and 'buddying up' is advised. It
is traditional for us to have a go at some safety or skills-related activities
on the Saturday morning and then race(s) on the Sunday, one of which involving a
paddle.
