On Sunday July 21st 2003 the second annual Sea Race took place at Exmouth. This is what is hoped to become an annual event and is to be held at a different location each year. This year Exmouth Rowing Club were the hosts and they did themselves proud - they put on an excellent event followed by a very generous BBQ and far too much wine. Crews from Exmouth, Minehead, Mayflower Offshore RC, and Wimbleball RC took part. Racing started at about 11am with a ladies race, two crews entered one from Exmouth and one from Minehead. Conditions were interesting to say the least and the ladies did well to even finish the course. See the photos below. The Exmouth ladies were the winners.

The men's race followed with two classes of boats competing. Crews from Exmouth, Mayflower Offshore RC, Wimbleball and Minehead rowed the Exmouth GRP French boats and crews from Minehead and Exmouth rowed the wooden French boats. Conditions were again interesting and the crew from Plymouth (Mayflower Offshore RC) romped home first followed by Wimbleball and Exmouth. The Minehead crew rowing the Exmouth GRP French boat suffered from a few steering problems - bouncing off No.10 buoy - "Liz watch that big Red thi....thud - whoops sorry about that, right back it down lads" |
