The initial PISTEP project
PISTEP was created in 1992 as a four-year project, 50% funded by the UK Department of Trade and Industry, entitled "Towards STEP for the Process Industries Data Exchange". Project themes were:
The original version of the "Executive Guide to STEP for the Process Industries" was produced by the PISTEP project. PISTEP's results were presented at two major conferences in London in 1993 and 1995. PISTEP IIPISTEP's second phase (1996-1999) was as a fully industry-funded consortium, with over 40 members drawn from owner/operators, engineering contractors, software vendors and academic institutions. PISTEP's activities during this period were concentrated on increasing awareness of STEP in the UK process industries and supporting the development and completion of key standards (ISO 10303-221 and ISO 15926), as well as contributing to other aspects of the EPISTLE work programme. PISTEP todayPISTEP was reconstituted in its present form in 2000, with a smaller membership and a much greater focus on implementation and practical use of standards and standards-based technology. PISTEP's members are companies that already understand the potential benefits that STEP can bring and are now working to realize those benefits in today's working environment. PISTEP members contribute actively to the EPISTLE work programme and work closely with members of the other EPISTLE consortia. During 2000 it was agreed to merge PISTEP with POSC Caesar into one organisation with PISTEP becoming the UK Chapter of POSC Caesar.
