Executive Guide to STEP for the Process IndustriesAction plansPlant owners and operatorsPrepare a plan of how the technology changes foreseen are to be exploited - specifically, how to migrate your engineering application portfolio to STEP compliance. You will naturally want to discuss your plans with system vendors, and with business partners. ContractorsBegin to select the STEP compliant CAD and engineering software upon which you will standardise. Form closer relationships with the vendors of this software, and plan the new software infrastructure to support their products (though independent of them). Talk to clients about how you will use STEP to exchange information with them. In some cases you will find them already set to do this. System vendorsNow is the time to ensure that the STEP standard supports the transfer of all data associated with your systems, so that your customers receive the maximum benefit from your systems under STEP. Your data structure should be migrating to better support the STEP standards. You will be able to identify the key target customers in the STEP arena: those sites currently using multiple CAE/CAD systems. Make sure they are aware that STEP is on your agenda too. Look for opportunities to develop specialist software independent modules that interoperate via STEP. There will be numerous opportunities in this area, previously out of reach, but now becoming realistic because of the increased size of the market.
