2006 Race Programme

The main club race programme has been split into seven sections, each for one race series. There are three major sections on this web page. A short cut link is here

Club Championship

The overall Club Championship is calculated from the results of

• All three Sunday Pursuit Race Series
• Both Wednesday Race Series

The overall Asymmetric Championship is calculated from the results of all three Sunday Asymmetric Handicap Race Series

The overall Conventional Championship is calculated from the results of all three Sunday Conventional Handicap Race Series

The overall Junior Championship is calculated from the results of all three Junior Race Series

The November Frostbite series is not part of any Championship

Sundays

Each Sunday we have the same format of races; three races back-to-back.

There are three Sunday series; Spring, Summer and Late Sunday. A November Frostbite series will also be run

• Races will normally be started from Doris, so remember that it takes time to get there
• All Fleets will use the same start and finish lines
• Races will be controlled by flags, see the Start Sequence data below
• At the first start a 45 minute pursuit race is set off, shown by "P" on the programme. All boats sail in one race
• This is followed immediately by two handicap races started back-to-back without leaving the water.
• October racing starts one hour earlier, at 12:30 to accommodate less light at the end of the month

Club Fleets

For pursuit races, all boats will be in one fleet and will start at offset times defined by their handicap. Sunday Handicap races will be split into the following fleets to provide varied racing for all sailors;

• An Asymmetric Handicap race for boats with asymmetric spinnakers. The course set may only have two buoys, windward and leeward
• A General Handicap fleet which will use the same buoys, plus some more to give reaching legs. This is for all other boats except for the Junior fleet.
• A Junior course suitable for Optimists

Wednesdays

• All races start at 19:00.
• All boats race together as one handicap fleet
• Wednesday races will normally start from the OD hut
• Starting on Wednesdays will be light driven, flags will often not be used

• The standard 5, 4, 1, GO sequence is used
• Asymmetric Flag is "A"
• General Handicap (or Pursuit) Flag is "G"
• Junior Flag is "O"
• Individual Recall is "X"
• General Recall Flag is "First Substitute"

See the Start Sequence, and then be SURE on how we run starts. (Its virtually standard "Rules of Sailing" apart from modified to use light signals not flags for some races.)
