From the NQYC website:

A very successful joint weekend was held over Whitsun with visitors from Draycote Water SC. Training took place in a variety of boats including Optimists, Toppers, Picos and Laser 3000's. The on water activities were supplemented with a series of short lectures on tides, weather and navigation, expertly delivered by Capt David James, Master Mariner. The success of these lectures was such that the parent numbers attending rose with each successive talk.

Saturday evening  was marked by a social event with extreme sailing videos and a meal prepared by Liz James and her team.

On the water, the sailors worked through the RYA level 2 and 3 syllabus, according to pre-course ability. Excellent progress was made and particular thanks are due to all the on-water helpers who helped to man the Jolly Roger and a range of private rescue boats. On the Monday, the wind was blowing force 4 with large waves and it was decided to take the children for a sail in the open sea. To do this, children were taken in the 2 Laser 3000s, helmed by adults, and in Picos helmed by the more competent youngsters, children being swapped on and off from the Jolly Roger. This proved to be a great success as it gave all the children a real taste for high speed sailing in the Laser 3000 and many also managed to use the trapeze.

After the success of this inaugural joint training, this event is likely to become a regular event in the youth programmes of both Draycote and New Quay.
