Alternative outhaul cleating arrangement

This alternative cleating arrangement for the outhaul makes adjustment much easier while sailing. I first saw the arrangement at the British Nationals, North Berwick in 2000. The principal measurer agreed that the arrangement did not violate any of the Topper measurement rules, provided the original cleat holes in the boom are used. The additional block must be tied to the end of the boom as the measurement rules do not allow it to be attached permanently.

Equipment needed

Jam cleat with nuts and bolts.

Stainless steel plate. This plate has 4 holes. Two to hold the jam cleat and two for fixing  to the boom. (Available from McCready Sailboats)

Small block.(see second illustration)
