International Topper Class Association (Ireland)
Guidance to host clubs on the organisation
of events accepted for inclusion in
the Association's Sailing Programme
National Championship Requirements
- Arrangements will be agreed by the Association with the host club for all
such events.
Area Championship Requirements
- All competitors will automatically become members of TICA (Ire).
- The events will be one or two day events as agreed by the host club with the
Association. A one day event will have three races with two to count (both to
count if only two sailed). A two day event will comprise such number of races
as the host club may determine.
- The host club is responsible for obtaining the Area Trophy from the previous
winner whose name and address will be provided by the Association Secretary.
- Prizes presented by TICA (Ire) are to be considered additional to prizes
awarded by the host club. Guidance on prizes is given below (paragraph 9).
- Immediately following the Championships, the host club will send a complete
list of all participants and their home clubs in finishing order to the
Association Secretary.
- Except with prior agreement with the Association, the club may not run any
other event on the same stretch of water on the same day.
- The organisation of these events is otherwise at the discretion of the host
club and its race committee, but it is expected that they will take into
account the advice of the Committee Area Representative, whether or not
participating in the event. If he or she is not present then similar regard
should be paid to the unanimous advice of any other Committee members present.
General Information
- Host clubs are required to forward £2.00 per entry to the Association. This
amount should be included as part of the event entry fee.
- Except for National Championships, the host club will determine the number
and nature of prizes to be awarded. As a guide, the Association recommends
that approximately one third of the total entry fee money should be spent on
prizes. A good rule is to give a number of prizes equal to the square root of
the number of competitors (for example 20-30 entries 5 prizes, 30-45 entries 6
prizes). In addition, careful consideration should be given to whether an
individual should be eligible for more than one prize.
- Clubs should note that a junior is defined by TICA (Ire) as someone who will
be under 16 on 31st December following the event, and a senior is
someone who was 45 or older on 1st January preceding the event.
- Immediately following the event, host clubs should submit a brief report to
Yachts & Yachting with a copy to the Association Secretary.
- Area and National events can attract large entries (40 or more),
particularly if they have been well advertised by host clubs with a reputation
for good organisation. Many of the helms will be young, and adequate rescue
facilities are essential, especially at coastal events.
- Any problems encountered in running the event should be drawn to the
attention of the Association Secretary or Area Representative.
