| Informal
Training
During the summer months the club sometimes runs a kind of
'teaching' programme for beginners and family members. Usually
on Tuesday evenings commencing around 1900 or thereabouts,
they are in addition to the normal RYA courses, details of
which are on the Training Notice Board and on this web site
under RYA Training Courses.
Please revisit this page at the start of next Summer 2007
as informal training courses and times will be posted here.
Racing Guide
The annual 'Rough
Guide to Racing' session, presented very roughly by
Barrie Lyman, takes place in the clubhouse one evening in
April each year.
The
intention is to demystify all the flags, bells, whistles and
basic rules of racing so that anybody can follow the fleet
round in complete confidence knowing that they are not getting
in somebody else's way. In truth that would never happen as
regular sailors will always defer to inexperienced racing
helms (!), often offering on-the-water tips.
We organise our Bronze, Silver and Gold Fleet racing on summer
Wednesday evenings, and for the last race on Sundays, so that
helms new to racing can sail in the Bronze fleet, surrounded
by helms of a similar experience level.
In the mean time, here's a useful (but lighthearted) guide:
