The Gwennili Trust Training Facilities

Practical training courses from Competent Crew through to Yachtmaster, which conform to the syllabus of the RYA and lead to the issue of the appropriate RYA certificates, are provided under the authority of the ASA. The RYA recognises that some students with disabilities are unable to complete the full requirements of a course without additional help. The scheme therefore makes provision for certificates to be endorsed indicating the sections of the syllabus where the trainee requires assistance.

RYA specified and authorised training for Competent Crew through to Yachtmaster certificates is carried out under the supervision of our Chief Instructor Ken Walker. Both the disabled, and able-bodied sailors wishing to become helpers, are considered for courses.

Candidates for RYA Competent Crew courses should have a RYA Logbook and Competent Crew handbook.
Candidates for RYA Day Skipper practical courses should have a Competent Crew certificate and have completed the RYA Day Skipper shore course.

Candidates for Coastal Skipper practical courses should be Day Skippers and have completed the RYA Coastal Skipper shore course, have a VHF Radio Operators Licence and in date First Aid Course completion certificate, and relevant sailing time and distance.

Candidates for Yachtmaster Offshore practical courses should be Coastal Skippers, have a VHF Radio Operators Licence and in date First Aid Course completion certificate, and have relevant sailing time and distance.
