Milton Keynes Cup 2001

Great Moor Sailing Club hosted the 2001 Milton Keynes Cup at Grebe lake over the weekend of the 5th and 6th May 2001. The Milton Keynes Cup is the annual inter club challenge between the 5 major Sailing Clubs in the North Bucks Region.

The Saturday is set-aside for the juniors to show their metal. This year only 3 clubs were able to raise a team: Great Moor, Haversham and Emberton Park. All the participants completed the three races scheduled for the day in spite of gusty Cold North Easterly winds.

When the results were calculated at the end of the racing, it proved to be a clean sweep by Great Moor. Not only did they win the team trophy, but Bobby Foster also won the individual trophy in his Laser.

On the Sunday the adults had their opportunity to match the juniors fine record. The weather was similar to Saturday. With Stewartby and Milton Keynes also entering full teams of six boats this provided a great spectacle for all those viewing from the bank. Once again three races were run to decide the winners. Great Moor once again acquitted themselves well with a good solid team performance, winning by a point's margin of 56 over the nearest club Haversham.

The individual trophy was a closer affair with Richard Patrick of Great Moor in his Laser narrowly winning from Richard Pares in his Phantom.

It was a great weekend for Great Moor doing the clean sweep over all the other clubs in the area.

The competition was close and keen but held in good spirit. During the prize giving Martin Beddows the GMSC Commodore thanked all the competitors for participating in this annual event along with all the Great Moor members who assisted with the running of the competition both on and off the water.
