Racing takes a variety of forms including pursuit, class and handicap racing (based on both RYA Portsmouth Yardsticks and Personnal Yardsticks). On Sundays and some Saturdays rescue cover is provided by qualified coxswains to add extra reassurance to less confident sailors.

One day events include open regattas and special club events including : Commodores Cup, Ladies Regatta, Junior/Novice Regatta and many others. Team racing is becoming increasingly popular with the club travelling to race against other local clubs and also take part in the Southport 24 hours race every year.

The club hosts an annual round of the Topper Eastern Region Traveller competition and the Laser Eastern Region and Home Counties Traveller circuit.

A wide variety of boats are sailed at the club but particularly competitive sailing occurs in the Laser, Topper, Kestrel and Wayfarer fleets. There are also a number of high performance boats such as Laser 2, 3000 and 4000. Youth sail training is particularly strong with the fleet of 10 Picos giving a realisting introduction to the hectic world of race starting and course rounding.

And don't forget the Windsurfing

The club has a substantial contingent of windsurfers keen to prove that sailing dinghies are a most pedestrian form of crossing the water!
