Governing Bodies

International Sailing Federation (as it is now called) is officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee as the governing authority for sailing world-wide. As such, the ISAF is responsible for promotion of the sport internationally, managing sailing at the Olympic Games, developing the International Yacht Racing Rules and Regulations for all sailing competitions and the training of judges, umpires and other administrators, the development of the sport around the world, as well as representing sailors in all matters concerning the sport.

Royal Yachting Association is the National Association for all forms of sailing and windsurfing, motor cruising, sportsboats, personal watercraft and powerboat racing. It is recognised by all Government offices as being the negotiating body for the water activities it represents.

UK Team Racing Association better know as UKTRA was formed to promote Team Racing throughout the country for all ages and at all levels.

Class Associations

Your Class Association exists to promote your dinghy class, organise local and national events, and to provide training and technical data specific to your boat. Often discounts are available to class association members.

Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 are revised and published every four years by the International Sailing Federation, the world governing body for the sport. The current edition came into effect on 1 April 2001. This link is to a free download so now there is no excuse!
