Q. Do I have to be a member to sail at Great Moor?

A. Yes. With the exception of Open Meetings, when the club organises racing and visitors from other clubs are welcome. If you've not sailed before and want to know if it's the sport for you then come along and visit the club and discuss the options. A trial sail with a club member can usually be organised and there is always a committee representative at the club on a Sunday who will be pleased to answer your questions. Follow the link to membership for more information.

Q. Do I need my own Boat to sail at Great Moor?

A. No. The club has a range of boats available for hire including Toppers, Lasers, and Kestrels. Boat hire is available to club members and is very reasonable. Follow the link to facilities for more information.

Q. Can I learn to Sail at Great Moor?

A. Yes. The club runs courses for Children and adults. Courses are open to non-members, so you can try a course, see if you like it and then join the club to continue sailing in your own or club boats. Follow the link to training for more information and to the club calendar for information on training course dates.

Q. What is expected of me as a club member?

A. The most obvious safety rule is the two boats on the rule i.e. no-one should be out on the lake with only one boat sailing. Members are also expected to contribute to the upkeep of the club through galley and sailing duties e.g. assisting the race officer or rescue boat. You are expected to complete a couple of duties a year however they are not onerous and can be a good way of meeting people within the club and learning more about the club activities and race administration. Members are also expected to help with club work days which occur 2/3 times per year to help with routine maintenance work on the buildings, environment and boats.
