Club Facilities
The club caters for all types of dinghy sailing from Optimist to RS400. The club has a number of boats available to members including Optimists, Toppers, Lasers and Kestrels.
The club house has a cosy communal area, bar and kitchen, changing rooms with toilets and showers, and large patio with a wonderful view over the water for spectators.
Work on the refurbishment of the clubhouse is underway (see refurbishment pictures here) including enlarging the club room, installing facilities for the disabled, refurbishing the bar and galley, decking the patio area, replacing windows, cladding the building, creating an office, changing room improvements and replacing the gate. Much of the internal work is now complete and we are now progressing the eternal works.
The compound is secure and provides accommodation for dinghies and sailboards. There are two launching slips and jetties to make launching and retrieval painless.
The club pays particular attention to safety with safety officers and boats on the water during normal club sailing days and is the sailing home for a number of local Scouting groups, schools and other organisations.
Sailing continues all year round with the exception of February when the lake is closed. Boxing Day and New Year sailing days are traditionally well attended!
Social Events
Friday evenings throughout the summer are family oriented, often accompanied by a barbeque, and Ladies sailing is on Wednesdays.
A number of open days raising money for local charities and the RNLI are also organised.
The club is active in other forms of water sport and organises offshore activities including dinghy sailing and charter cruising weekends.
Boat Hire
The club owns an excellent selection of sailing dinghies including 8 Kestrels, 3 Bosuns, 4 Lasers, 7 Optimists, and 2 Toppers as well as two Trapper 460 open canoes.
The Kestrels and Bosuns are excellent training boats with plenty of space and speed whilst being easy to handle and safe. The Lasers and Toppers are ideal for younger sailors to learn single handed dinghy sailing in a safe environment.
All club boats are available for hire to Club Members. All hires subject to a Committee member being present to arrange the hire. Hire fees are set to cover the cost of maintaining the club fleet.
Hire rates are very reasonable making this just about the cheapest way to go sailing anywhere:
