Classes Sailed at Dorchester Sailing Club

On a Sunday morning a fleet of around 20 boats is a common sight. Although no one type of dinghy dominates at Dorchester SC as with most clubs there are favourites. At Dorchester these are the Solo and the Laser.

Solo (www.solosailing.com)

The Dorchester Lagoon is ideal for the Solo dinghy with it’s fully battened main sail. The Solo sails well in the shifty winds sometimes present on this inland water.  The friendly Solo fleet always welcomes new members to join this class. Dorchester Sailing Club has hosted an Open Meeting for the past few years.

Laser (UK Laser Class Association)

Lasers and Laser Radials form a large fleet at Dorchester SC with fun competitive club sailing. The Lasers form their own class and compete for trophies. There’s no Ben Anslie’s here, but we all enjoy regular sailing. If you want some good friendly Laser sailing, come along to Dorchester and join in with the Laser racing. Occasionally there are Laser training days which help improve the performance of the Laser fleet.

Mirror (UK Mirror Class Association)

Dorchester caters for all, with the regeneration of the Mirror class. Coaching and workshops are held with a Mirror open most years as part of the Mirror Traveller series. An ideal opportunity for juniors to start sailing in crewed dinghies. Come along and join in with the Mirror class.

General Handicap

The regular General Handicap fleet comprises of Supernova, Phantom, Comet, a few Lightnings, Mirracle, Enterprises, GP14’s, Gulls and Wayfarers. These classes compete in their series trophies with the Slow and Fast Handicap results separated out.
