The founding of DSC Radio Controlled Lasers
Following the initiative of DSC member John Cronshaw the Club agreed, in November 2008, to allow the use of radio controlled Lasers for Delph members.
Thanks to Andy Kissick who gave generously of his time to help us set up the new boats he had sourced, DSCRCL initially had 5 members sailing 1/4 sized radio controlled Lasers.
Thanks to our Hon Sec, John Cronshaw, DSCRCL became affiliated to the Model Yachting Association and each DSCRCL member became a member of the United Kingdom Radio Controlled Laser Association (UKRCLA)
JC also made some marks and David Helme sorted out a CD that plays a starting sequence.
JC, DH and Tony Cropper had been fortunate enough to be invited to sail the boats at various venues prior to our purchase and Chris Pickles was, in his misguided youth, a bit of a dab hand at RC car racing so we had a bit of a head start over Patrick Manning who (to his credit) had done neither of these things.
So by the time we had failed to find a CD player that would play the starting sequence and had to get DH to drive his car to the sailing area to play the CD on his car radio and PM had discovered that his antenna wasn't attached and it wasn't CP's radio interfering with his boat and when JC had rowed half way across the lake to recover PM's boat which had sailed off at a great rate because PM had launched without switching it on - we went sailing!
Photos of our early sessions are courtesy of CP's official photographer and honorary Officer Of the Day, Laura.
