BCU Cumbria: Action Plan for 2005.
  Paddler Focus Raising the Profile International success
Communications Via e mail and web site, circulate clubs with minutes and programme of events after each meeting. Keep expanding use of e mail and web site for all paddlers. Encourage clubs to exchange newsletters/programmes. List of 2005 courses and minutes to be put on web site. Visit each club during the year, with AWA trailer/boats. Information to local press about Canoeing events in the region. More involvement with regional groups / organizations. Involvement with the National Youth fest in the NE and Youth Wavehopper championships. Run youth competitions with Wavehoppers to stimulate interest. Run again the Wavehopper northern championships at Carlisle and the Ullswater race – ensure News papers are aware of events. Organise and promote a series of winter lecture programmes.
Young people Support PDO on Tyneside and ensure she helps with Cumbria events. Run an event for young people using the AWA boats.

Organise a junior freestyle day with Kayak a jacko.

Promote links with Schools and other youth organizations where they can be fulfilled by existing club provision. Enable juniors to access competition training as appropriate. Visit Duddon CC to run training event before first Wavehopper race. Support WW junior events and Youth championships.
Membership and marketing. Support all clubs in Cumbria where possible. Help club members attend courses by offering a subsidized rate if club supports them and they offer help back to the club. Encourage all paddlers to join the BCU as club members at least. Promote benefits. Aim to have at least one club Forum run in the region. Help keep web site up to date. Organise and promote a series of winter lecture programmes.
Volunteers Voluntary coaches, supported by their clubs to be able to access subsidy on coaching courses. Pre requisites for coaching run at low price via the CDO and support from BCU. Ensure volunteers are thanked when ever possible for their help and enthusiasm. Clubs to be reminded of the Sport England VIP programme. Welcome any international visiting coaches or competitors into the region and encourage them to enter or help on events. Consider request for financial support by Cumbrian Polo team.

 

Equity plan Support any courses run for Women, youth and disabled. Advertise such courses around the clubs. Some junior courses to be advertised. Ensure clubs are aware of the Paddleability weekend in the NE and disability-training courses run at Calvert trust or elsewhere. Help fund interested participants from cumbrian clubs.  
Coaching Regional courses as requested. Funding for club paddlers. Train more Assessors and ensure Coaching Process courses run in the region. Bring on new CCP’s as needed. Run regional coaching update day for all coaches. Promote Coaching for teachers programme. Help support the running of the Open Canoe Symposium at lakeside in November. Harry Rock from the USA key note speaker and coach.
Access Help Regional Access officer Mark Davies and EA recreation officer Jo Barrett. Support local access officers where possible. Help to keep all clubs up to date where possible of access issues. Keep BCU up to date of relevant issues. Help promote the access agreement on the lower Derwent and deal with any associated problems. Produce a draft Ullswater touring guide. Work with Eden Rivers Trust to develop a much grander guide and gazetteer for Ullswater.
Competition Aim to hold the Northern Wavehopper championships and the Ullswater race. Support Canoe Polo tournament in May. Support clubs with junior sections by organising junior races and promote junior events in the NE region. Use AWA boats to run come and try it sessions to engender interest in competition.

Via races help promote world class start programme for appropriate individuals.
