We are a relatively small club, as clubs go, and our stretch of river is quite short. However, it presents us with different challenges throughout the season and we certainly enjoy some good sailing and canoeing.

Our members tend to sail their own dinghies. For racing we use mainly British Moths, but for recreational sailing we use a mixture of craft. The Club has a British Moth, a West Eleven and a Mirror available for members to use, and has recently acquired an Enterprise to use as a training boat.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer RYA Coaching, as we do not have a qualified Instructor, but we are happy to offer help in learning to sail on an informal basis, of course.

Our races are mainly on Wednesday evenings (Pursuits) and Sunday afternoons (Handicaps and Cups). See the Sailing Programme page for further details.

On Thursday evenings during the summer months we hold a Family Boating Evening. This starts at 6.00pm and is an ideal opportunity for recreational sailing, canoeing, rowing and messing about in boats, with delicious hot bacon rolls to complete the evening. It's a lovely family occasion and well worth coming.

We also enjoy various social events throughout the year - in September, for example, we hold a Twilight Evening event, whilst our annual Skittles Evening is well supported and we are always ready to bring out the barbecue if the weather looks promising. We hold a Canoeing Awards Evening in October and a Sailing Awards Dinner in November to which members and guests are invited.

Our Canoeing section is very active. In the summer supervised paddling sessions for members are held on Tuesday evenings, and adult canoeists enjoy weekend excursions on a regular basis as well. Again, most canoeists tend to bring their own kayaks, but the Club does have a number available for members' use. For details of our canoeing activities please go to the Canoeing Programme page. BCU Training is available; please contact Chris Moore via our Contact page for details.
