We arrived at Hayling Island to find the magnificent new clubhouse open. Again this year we had entries from Switzerland.

After breakfast in bright sunshine on the 1st floor balcony we went afloat in a force 3 breeze from the south to sail the 1st and 2nd races back to back.

The slow handicap fleet was fought between Barclays and Nationwide, while the fast handicap was fought between Barclays and HSBC, including very tight racing for the RS400s.

The fast fleet had a windward leeward course, with the slow fleet using the same beat but with the addition of a wing mark.

Lunch was eaten on the balcony in the sunshine.

Friday 16th May, Force 3 Southerly in light drizzle rising to a Force 4.

First Race was the Southampton Trophy, long distance race, due to the strong incoming tide a single lap race around the cans within the harbour giving us every point of sailing at some part of the race.
