Q Do I have to be a patient of Brook Lane Surgery to receive treatment there? 3 A No, anybody can see us privately at 233a Brook Lane. Q Do I need a doctors referral for physiotherapy treatment? A No, however we do recommend that you contact your private health insurance company as they may require a medical referral (referral by a Doctor) to authorize reimbursement of treatment charges. Q Is the cost of physiotherapy covered by medical insurance? A Yes, if the physiotherapist is Chartered (a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists) and State registered. It is important to check with your insurance for any special limits to reimbursement. Q Is physiotherapy appropriate for back and neck problems or is it only useful for muscle injuries? A Chartered Physiotherapists are qualified to treat all spinal problems. Q What is electrotherapy? A Electrotherapy is the use of electricity in order to produce different types of energy waves. These waves are then used to effect tissues by reducing swelling, pain and muscle spasm and by strengthening muscle. This results in the promotion of healing. Q Can physiotherapists manipulate? A Yes, chartered physiotherapists with the appropriate post-graduate training are qualified to manipulate. Q How quickly will I be seen for my first treatment? A We will always endeavor to offer you an appointment on the same day or within 24 hours. Q How long does each treatment last? A Each treatment session lasts approximately half an hour. Q Should I bring my x-rays with me? A Yes and any other relevant medical material you may have. Q How many treatments will I need? A There is no pre-determined number of treatments. The physiotherapists will discuss your treatment and outcome with you.
