MOONGAZER'S SPRING CRUISE
THE LOG 12th May-24th May 2003

COMMENT
At last matters are turning towards sailing, the raison d'etre of BSC. This was hailed by your receipt of notice for subscription payments and also by the reportedly excellent fitting out dinner last Saturday.
We have light in the car park and plans drawn for the proposed alterations, which will be on view to members shortly. On the whole a lot of 'behind the scenes' work takes place and many people contribute their time, effort
and ideas when it may seem that nothing is being done. This looks like being an exciting and rewarding year for the Club and its members who will all benefit from the coming changes. How much each of us benefits is in our own hands.

Here are some notes and notices from the General Committee meeting for February some of which are day-to-day business but others are important.

THE COMMODORE opened the meeting and after discussion about the agenda and last month's minutes Mike thanked Stan Warren for organising the Fitting Out Dinner so well and also Mark Meadows for his contribution. It was an excellent evening and the roof didn't leak! More information about the roof later.

THE VICE COMMODORE reported that the sailing committee had finalised the dates for the races during the season and had also arranged Officers of the Day for all but two of the races. Dave pointed out that the O.Ds named are responsible for finding a replacement if they cannot attend. Work on the turning block in the boatyard is continuing.

A hand pumped foghorn has been obtained for the use of Officers of the Day. Mersey Dock Co appear to have damaged or demolished two perches whilst recovering the buoy Q12 from the beach. The Club Captain will order more poles and work is in hand to repair Stephenson's Cross landmark.

Racing and Cruising dates are now ready to go in the Diary. The Commodore's Cruise will take place on the 27th June. There is still one mast up in the yard and notice has been given that it must be removed before 1st. March

The Club Captain is interested in organising a Club Cruise to Ireland. There are no details yet but a notice will be on the board for members to signify if they are interested.

THE REAR COMMODORE said that most of the House Committee Meeting time was spent on the Fitting Out Dinner and on discussions about bar staff. Trevor Mayers is taking steps to get another type of beer in addition to Boddingtons when the new coolers are installed. It was decided that no more outside lighting is necessary. The telephone will be moved inside the Clubhouse this week.

THE HON SECRETARY has put correspondence received on the notice board and also a notice from a firm of Marine Surveyors.

Mark has received a letter from Mark Miller who is writing a Centenary Booklet for the club. He would like the Club Minutes Book from 1930 onwards. If you know about these or have any information that will be useful please get in touch with Mark Meadows.

THE HON TREASURER
returned from his holiday in Australia with the news that at present we have a very happy bank balance due in part to the payment of some of the subs. However, soon there will be many calls on our finances when the proposed alterations begin.

THE HON MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY was pleased to tell us that the subs were coming in quite well. We also welcome Mike Ascot as an Out port member. Mike is soon returning to Spain after his knee repairs and will then take his boat to the Greek Isles

Stan too had a letter from Mark Miller who was disappointed after his long journey from Cornwall to attend the A.G.M to find that the clubhouse bar was not open and therefore most members dashed off straight after the meeting. (There has been an apology for the lack of bar facilities that day due to a misunderstanding) Mark also made several observations about the history of the clubhouse and also on fund raising and subs.

SOCIAL NOTES. The Social Committee will meet this week to make plans for the year now that they have the dates for the sailing season. Maggie has many good ideas, which will be discussed, and events announced later. There can be no events during the period 20th March until the end of April due to repairs. Kathrine Hogarth will organise a quiz night on 13th March.

PORT WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN As a sailing club we are obliged to take part in this and suggestions for placing bins in the yard and outside the clubhouse have been submitted. This is management of waste brought in from boats only. We must continue the policy of taking our rubbish home. There will be more about this at a future date.

THE CLUB DIARY The details and information for the diary is being gathered together at present by Mark Meadows. If you have anything that should be included, excluded or changed please get in touch with Mark as quickly as you can.

THE COASTAL FORUM. Phil Wright attended an all day meeting last Saturday, representing the interests of BSC. There are proposals to make a Chester to Carlisle Country Trail taking in coast and canal. This therefore will use the edge of our car park. The Sefton part may be the first to open and will possibly team up with Merseyside. This will happen around 2006.

CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPMENT

You will receive by post a notice of an Extraordinary General Meeting WED 25th FEBRUARY
This is in regard to a rule change. Please try to attend.
At this meeting the drawings and plans drawn by C Plant will be available for inspection and once members have seen what is proposed some people will probably feel more inclined to contribute in some way towards the cost of the work
