DATE SPEAKER TOPIC

10th Jan

Hugh Woodsend

Sailing and Gliding

Hugh explores the similarities between Sailing and Gliding. He has a quite awesome visual presentation combining stills with movie clips and graphics explaining thermals and on-shore winds etc. This was advertised to the Booker Gliding Club too – so expect a crowd!

14th Feb

Frank Singleton

Passage Making using Weather Forecasting

Frank is a well known meteorologist and brings his considerable experience to this interesting topic in an entertaining and instructive way. We suggest you check out your old RYA Meteorology notes to swot up on the terminology and to raise questions on the areas that cause you grief.

14th Mar

Alec McPherson

Sailing from the Solent to St Kilda via Scottish waters

Alec talks about his experiences of cruising to and around the Outer Hebrides – ‘Bagpipes and Kilt’. With fabulous visuals of the area and music – we’ll be treated to a multi-media presentation, coloured by historical facts relating to Bonny Prince Charlie and his secret escape holes – in this inhospitable, but stunningly beautiful sailing area.

11th Apr

Jim Hardiman

Sailing in the Gulf of Morbihan

Our Commodore, Jim, has kept his Etap in the Morbihan for many years and gives us his personal perspective on sailing in this beautiful & fascinating area with its nine knot tidal streams!  He touches on the history, geology, hydrology and traditions of the area; as well as the choice of the right type of boat.

The above programme is mostly confirmed and any changes will be notified in good time.  Please do try and support the events as we are a relatively small Group and need your attendance in order to attract good speakers. Please spread the word to your friends, who as you know, are always welcome.
