As many of you will have heard on the sailing grapevine, our former Commodore and current Hon. Treasurer Nick Prosser died very suddenly at the end of September.

Nick will be remembered as a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher of every kind of yachting and marine activity especially those for youth sailors. While his leadership as the master in charge of sailing and the naval cadets at Tonbridge School was legendary, he did as much or more for the RYA and its youth training programmes across the country.

While his funeral has already taken place, there is going to be a memorial/thanksgiving service for him in the Tonbridge School chapel on the morning of the 10th November. This will be an occasion which many of us at Bough Beech will want to attend, as will many others from further afield. As a result, the Club announces that the Wayfarer racing programmed for Saturday will be abandoned.

Instead, the general Committee has approved changing the regatta to a one-day event to be raced on Sunday the 11th. Depending on the wind and weather, we will try to get 3 or 4 races completed between our Armistice observance at 11:00 hrs and tea-time. Despite the inevitable curtailment we very much hope many of you, our regulars, will come and join us for another ’Finale’. The entry fee will be a nominal £10.

To allow for travelling time for visitors coming just for the one day, we wont start earlier than 11:00, but will expect to have a briefing at 10:30 hrs and be on the water for the 2 minute silence, with the warning signal for the first race at 11:02hrs.

Alternatively however, the club will be open for sailing on Saturday afternoon with a safety boat on duty, so visitors will be more than welcome to come then, rig their boats, go for a tune-up sail if they choose and join us in the club at dusk. This will ease the pressure to get ready on time on Sunday at the expense of a B & B! If you can let us know who of you will be arriving on Saturday, we will organize a pub supper together along the lines of what we did last year at the Greyhound, Hever.

We very much hope you will keep the date with BBSC for another year.
