BOUGH BEECH SAILING CLUB

Short Reminder List for OOD duty (*please confirm receipt with me*)

Please refer to full instructions or contact the duty secretary or any committee member beforehand if you are unsure of what your duty entails. Most skippers know the lock up procedures.

One Week Before

You will be in charge of the club so it is your job to make sure you have a team to cover the dayŐs activities. You must communicate any changes to that team, including you if you swap, to the club and to your team members. Just informing the duty secretary is not enough.

RING ROUND BY MONDAY prior to your duty at the latest otherwise you  will not have enough time to find replacements. If you swap please make sure your swap tells me. If you have internet access check for changes to the duty chart on the club website www.boughbeechsc.org.uk .

Opening up

It is rare you will beat Frances in but just in case the new procedures for entry access are in your main instructions.

Safety boats

Assist the safety skipper to open up boathouse and prepare enough safety boats to suit the weather conditions so you can quickly commandeer extra crews if necessary on the day. Keep an eye on Schools sailing on Saturdays.

Club Burgee

Hoist the flag to indicate hours of sailing and degree of safety boat cover.

Radios

Check there is full radio contact between safety boats, committee boat, assistant OOD and you. Channel information is on the wall near the fixed office radio. (Use CH37 or M1 Low)

Paperwork

Fill in the OOD log sheet during the day. Please record duty absentees and amend the duty master sheet to show who actually did a duty. This is important for future reference if any safety issues arise on the day. Record non-rostered users of powerboats –eg, schools, training etc, and fill in the bosunŐs log.

During the day

Make sure you are as aware as possible of what is happening on the lake. You have a better vantage point than the safety boat. Make sure they are aware of sailors in trouble especially young members and particularly in wintry conditions. On Saturdays try to police the boat park but Sundays use your Assistant OOD to look after off-water activities. Try to involve your AOD in your duty as they might be picked for OOD duty next time.

Read your instructions particularly the references to Heavy Weather conditions.

Please make sure you or your AOD take the rubbish down for Frances at the end of the afternoon.

Locking up

Make sure you know how to lock up before you are left alone to do it! Ask a committee member if you are unsure. If you leave the keys with anyone else, record that in the log.

**Remember your duty is until 6pm unless everyone else has left by then.**
