COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: All bids for sailing and windsurfing courses should be with the club 2 weeks before the start of the course. However booking closer to that date may be accepted. Phone the club if you find your self at a loose end just before the start of a course, we may have had a cancellation

Keelboat

This course is designed as an introduction to keelboats for those who can already sail a dinghy

RYA Level

Successful Students will gain RYA Keelboat Level 2

Dinghy Level 1

This course is designed to provide an introduction to sailing. Instruction is carried out on a Laser PICO dinghy. The PICO is a single hander dinghy. Each student will have his or her own boat for the duration of the course

Dinghy Level 2

This course is designed is to improve RYA Level 1 students to RYA Level 2 standards. Covering in more detail the basic skills to sailing around a triangle course

RYA Level 1

Successful Students will gain RYA Level 2

Dinghy Level 1

This course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. By the end of the course participants will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background knowledge. It is recommended that all participants consolidate this short course with the Basic Level 2 course

Dinghy Level 2

This course will bring the Level 1 sailor up to a standard that will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds

Dinghy Seamanship

On completion of this course, the successful sailor will be capable of maneuvering a dinghy in a seamanlike manner and making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions

RYA Level 2

Successful Students will gain RYA Seamanship Skills

Dinghy Day Sailing

On completion of this course the successful sailor will have a confident, safe approach to planning and executing a short cruise in a dinghy

RYA Level 2

Success Students will gain RYA Day Sailing. Note this course can not be done at the BDYC

Dinghy Sailing with spinnakers

On completion of this course the successful sailor will understand how to sail a dinghy rigged with an asymmetric or symmetric spinnaker

Successful Students will gain RYA Sailing with spinnakers

Dinghy Sailing Start Racing

This course is designed to give the confidence skills and knowledge to take part in club racing in good conditions

RYA Level 2

Successful Students will gain RYA Start Racing

Dinghy Sailing Performance Sailing

On completion of this course the successful sailor will understand how to sail performance dinghies in all wind conditions that they can expect to encounter, sailing the boat to best advantages at all times

RYA Level 2

Dinghy Assistant Instructors

This course is designed to enable experienced sailors to obtain the RYA Assistant Instructor qualification, which enables them to assist qualified RYA Instructors

Dinghy Instructor

This course is designed to teach and qualify experienced sailors to become RYA Instructors

Fast Forward Start Windsurfing

This will take you from complete beginner, teaching you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment, enabling you to sail to where you want to go and to sail back to where you started from

Fast Forward Intermediate Non Planing

After Fast Forward Start Windsurfing, fine tuning your basic skills to make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. New techniques such as the beach start and the introduction to the harness you will be geared up and ready for the excitement of higher winds in Fast Forward Intermediate Planing

RYA Fast Forward Start Windsurfing

Successful Students will gain RYA Fast Forward Non Planing qualification

Fast Forward Intermediate Planing

This is where harness and foot strap techniques, combined with improved stance will get the board planing and give you the exhilaration of speed. Faster tacking and more dynamic gybes complete this package

Successful Students will gain RYA Fast Forward Intermediate Planing

Fast Forward Advanced

Water starts and carve gybes. The next step towards carve gibing is what you’ll be learning – carving into turn but coming out non-planing. Learning to tack shorter boards will keep your options open. Once you’ve mastered the strap to strap carve gybe, more advanced gibing such as the duck and slam gybe can be tacked. An introduction to wave sailing, with launching and recovery, jumping and landing – leading to the cutting edge of windsurfing.
