Poole and Porkpie Become Acquainted... (click piccies for a bigger image)

Sunday 21st  April, Morris and I launch PorkPie for the first time at Poole Harbour. The sun shone for them  for a while as we motored around past Pottery pier and alongside Green and Furzey islands. Anchoring on the south side of Brownsea Island, the fishing gear and lunch came out. The fish were not obliging however and only a few hapless baby crabs allowed themselves to be winched aboard.

As we try to sail north toward Brownsea Castle, the Ebbing Spring Tide works strongly against us and the motor is brought into play. Upon reaching 'Aunt Betty' Cardinal the sails are hoisted and the increasing wind leans her over well. Then suddenly comes the storm and the sea chops up beneath us. We were not slow in dopping the sails and engaging the engine. After five hours at sea, it was time to get back to Baiter Park and safety.

Our first trip had been a real success, The West Wight Potter handled very well indeed, it had been easy to launch and recover up the excellent slipway.

Join us on the next trip!... Jim
